The seeding prescriptions are a 2-Step process to make. This is the only formula group that requires this.

The reason why this is a 2-step is to smooth out the prescription so your equipment can handle it.

There are also multiple other ways to make a seeding script with VRAFY.

  1. Using “Create Manual Rx” Function
    1. Satellite Imagery from Last Season
  2. Using Management Zones
    1. Zones have to be made by VRAFY Staff
      1. VRAFY Complete Customers, or as a add-on service

We currently only offer corn and soybeans for VR seeding, if you would like to variable rate a different crop, please let VRAFY staff know.

Step 1: Should I use Multiyear or Yield Potential?

Multiyear is recommended when you have multiple years worth of good yield data. You can select up to however many years that you have yield data for a certain crop.

Yield potential is used when you only have one year of yield data for a certain crop. Or if you are a complete customer, we use it with a yield potential map.

Only have one year of yield?

You may be better off using Satellite imagery using the “Create Manual Rx” function as it would be a quicker process to get a similar result.

Step 2: Making the script - Multiyear

Go to the formula Rx tool and scroll down to formula group 09 Seeding

Select (Crop) Seed from Multiyear Yield

Click on “Vars"

There is no need to use the “prefs” for this formula.

You can now run the formula and procced to step 2.

Step 3: Create Manual Rx Function to Smooth Map

Once you have created your script, it will show up in Map in your Ops Center. Find your script and select the manual Rx button to smooth the map for planting.

  1. Set Zone type to Jenks Natural Breaks and select how many different seeding rates you want. (5 is common)
  2. Smooth Map - This will remove pixelation and make it easier on the planter. Typically do 10m or 15m
  3. Check remove small regions
  4. Switch product to Crop and select crop type
  5. Optional : Add another product if you would like to also variable rate your starter, or whatever in infurrow, 2x2 product you may run.
  6. Run Rx
  1. You can edit the rates manually on the right
  2. Select Edit layer to add check strips or paint new zones.
  1. Check Download shapefiles to download a generic shape to your computer.
  2. Check Download Reports if you want to download a PDF report for printing
  3. Send to operation center if you have connected equipment
  4. Hit run and the script will be available to you in your ops center to use during planting.
  5. Done
